Mission statement

Sam Collier and I have decided to team up and create a company between us called Super 8 Studios. this company will be a creative media company specialising in short films and promo work. We will most likely be doing freelance work doing promos for clients and then we will also be making short films that we wanna produce and then maybe submit them to film festivals. 

Our decision to team up was helped by our strong understanding of each other and also the fact that we have worked together on projects before and we know we both work well together. Working together goes hand in hand with our ambitions as well as I want to do camera work and Sam wants to do editing and so we will be able to work as a media company efficiently.

Personal background

Both Sam and I attended the same school and we both did media studies as a GCSE together, we both enjoyed media and hence why we joined NKC to do film and TV. Since then we have built up our skills and learnt a plethora of new things that will help us along the way including camera placement, lens types and editing skills.

We have decided to team up and create Super 8 Studios as we both have a strong passion for creating content and we are both very creative and imaginative. Creating this business will give us both the creative freedom and responsibility that we have wanted since enrolling for college, and will allow us to really express ourselves with complete freedom.

We plan on building this business up slowly throughout our year at college as we learn how to successfully run a business all while we do work for clients and build up a catalogue of content that we have made as a company and try and use this to project ourselves into the professional world when we are finished with college.

Products and services

Super 8 Studios will be a media company that will mainly produce promotional work and also short films. The promo work will be for clients that we will be sourcing ourselves and we hope to build up relationships and a large network of contacts who will require our services and who we can cooperate with.

​

Alongside this we also plan on film producing as the pair of us are very creative and imaginative and together we feel we can produce good quality short films. Together Sam and I can work well together for both the promo work and also films as I enjoy working the cameras and Sam enjoys editing, so those two things come together well and we can both work well on the other things together like pre-production and story ideas for our films.

Customers, Clients and audience

As for clients, we would most likely be working with who ever we can get on our hands on at the start of this company as our main aims will be making a foundation for ourselves and getting our name out there and building a name for the Super 8 Studios brand, Weather this be a short video for a small shop on the high-street or a video for another company, at the start anything will help us to build up our portfolio and also may allow us to make connections through people knowing other people. 

As time goes on and eventually when Super 8 Studios has a brand we will be looking to branch out and work with bigger names and companies to try and make the company more known and established.

As for our film production at the moment we are not aiming to become a massive name like Warner Bros or Disney, we would much prefer to treat it more as a side thing where we can relax and put our imaginations to use to create films and shorts for ourselves and maybe submit them to film festivals. If our films do well we may consider taking film making more serious but in the meantime it is something we want to do for ourselves to allow our creativity to flow.

 

​Marketing strategy 

We'd like to think that due to our age we are both are very much in touch with social medias and knowing what works and what doesn't on the likes of Instagram and other socials. Eventually we will create an Instagram profile and others like Twitter and Facebook but Instagram will be our main priority as it is probably the biggest social media platform today and most people use it. 

Instagram is also very good for interacting with followers due to interactive stories and polls. 

Alongside interactiveness, Instagram is good for networking as when you follow someone it gives you suggestions for similar people which could potentially be helpful for finding new clients and people to work with.

Competitor analysis

At the moment the only real and obvious competitors that we will have are the other people in the class as they will probably be doing similar things as us this year as we are all limited on things like clients and other factors like budget. As time goes on though and as we build up the size of Super 8 Studios, the list of competitors will become endless as there are so many companies that will be doing the same thing, it will be all about how we deal with that and what we plan on doing to make sure we stand out from the rest and really make Super 8 Studios a unique one of a kind brand.

Logistical and operations analysis

At first our customers will most likely be receiving our work via email and if I'm really honest i cant see that changing as email is the easiest way to send and receive content, there may be some cases where we hand the content over in person via a hard drive or memory stick for example.

As for payments we probably wont be getting payed much during the college year I imagine it will be similar to what founder of Dawn Star media Charlie McKenzie told us where he was payed via a Bluewater gift voucher when he did a little bit or work for them.

Costs and pricing strategy 

Once again at first we wont be charging anything for our services as we are still learning and gaining experience and so basically they are paying us in the form of experience. In terms of budgeting and costs we do not need to worry about that as we get a variety of kit available to us for use in college and the only things we may need to worry about is travel and also small extra things like props and stuff that we may require for a shoot.

Obviously this will change and we will start charging for our services once we have finished college and we have to source our own equipment and stuff.
